http://www.starbirdcrest.com/index.html This house is for rent in the summer.
View from south at ground level. Photo taken in early spring. In the summer when the leaves are out, the house can not be seen from the ground. The main living level on top floats above the tree tops which become the lawn as one looks down from above.

VIEW FROM THE NORTHWEST-ENTRY SIDE
Starbird House completed in 1994 on the top of a hill. The panoramic views of the Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean could not be seen from the ground. The Client selected the site knowing that the house they wanted must have the major living areas thirteen feet above the highest point on the site. They called it an upside down house. Construction was accomplished to protect and preserve the exposed ledge site on three sides so that the natural lichen is still touching the foundation. This house has about 8000 Sq. Ft. of finished living area and an additional 2000 Sq. Ft. of garage, and utility area.
The house is designed on four levels. The top level is the largest. This floor includes the main living with dining, cove with fireplace and kitchen with breakfast all in one great space. A private study with full bath doubles as guest suite. Large outside balcony terrace areas complete the top level.
FIREPLACE COVE AND ENTERTAINMENT CENTER
GENE CLAVETTE BUILDER, ON LEFT AND ARCHITECT AT THE OPEN HOUSE 1994.
Level Three below contains the Master Suite. Two guest suites are complete with private baths and balconies. A laundry and a bunk room that can sleep four young at heart folks, complete this level.
Level Two is the entry point into the central stair which also servers as an art gallery. This level includes a billiard room, painting studio and a third guest suite as well as the two car garage and workshop.
Level One is a utility basement and is where the wood for the fire place is stored. The necessity for the elevator with four stops is obvious.
Materials are White Cedar shingles and stone. The interior is painted dry wall and painted wood trim. Built in shelving and furniture are dark stained oak. A special feature of the Living Area is the eleven foot diameter table with two drop leaves, that seats twelve.
Many other special features make this house an expression of the needs of the Client through understanding and application of the principles of Organic Architecture by the experience and talent of the Architect.

Now working with clients in Portland, Freeport, St. George, and Harrison, Maine and Florida, Mexico.
Residential architecture inspired by my clients and the natural sites on the coast of Maine.
This site is offered in support of the cause of Organic Architecture. Frank Lloyd Wright, Bruce Goff and many other architects have influenced the Principles expressed in the architecture I have designed and built.
The site is so important to all my work. This plan shows some of the site conditions that influenced the design of this house.
